Former Kano State Governor and leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has declared that he is the only “priceless” politician in Kano State, insisting that money does not influence his political decisions.
Kwankwaso, who was the presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in the 2023 general election, made the remark on Tuesday while addressing his supporters at his residence in Kano.
He said that while many Nigerians believe politicians can easily be influenced by money, he is proud to describe himself as someone whose political choices are guided by principles rather than financial gain. According to him, if money were his primary motivation, he already knows where to align politically.
The former governor also stated that no one has ever attempted to “buy” him politically, stressing that his loyalty is not for sale. He extended the same description to his supporters, noting that members of the Kwankwasiyya Movement are equally “priceless” because they refuse to allow money to determine their choices during elections.
Kwankwaso also urged his followers to remain calm and patient amid current political developments, reminding them that political offices are temporary and that circumstances can ce at any time by the will of God.
His comments come against the backdrop of reports of a growing rift between him and Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, his long-time political ally. The tension is linked to speculation that the governor may be considering a defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Previously, Kwankwaso had criticised the alleged planned move, describing it as painful and accusing those involved of handing over Kano’s governorship to former governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
