PDP’s internal conflict keeps on getting worse as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) faction aligned with Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike has expelled several high-profile members, including Governors Seyi Makinde of Oyo, Bala Mohammed of Bauchi, and Dauda Lawal of Zamfara.

The sweeping purge was formalized during the party’s 103rd “National Executive Committee (NEC)” meeting held at the PDP national secretariat in Abuja. Alongside the expulsions, the faction dissolved state party structures in Oyo, Bauchi, Ekiti, Zamfara, Edo, and Lagos, signaling a major shake-up in the party’s grassroots leadership.

Others removed from the party include former “Board of Trustees Chairman” Senator Adolphus Wabara, Senator Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, and “Deputy National Chairman (South)” Taofeek Arapaja, all cited for “anti-party activities.”

Acting National Chairman Alhaji Mohammed Abdulrahman, who presented the expulsion memo, accused the affected members of flouting court orders and damaging the party’s reputation. The official “NEC” communique, read by “National Secretary” Senator Samuel Anyanwu, emphasized the need to restore discipline and constitutional order.

“The National Executive Committee (NEC) met on 18 November 2025 to address recent developments affecting the unity, ility, and constitutional order of our Party,” the communique stated. It condemned the organization of an “unauthorized convention” that allegedly violated court rulings and triggered widespread defections and internal division.

The “NEC” cited breaches of Articles 58(1) and 59(1) of the PDP Constitution and approved disciplinary proceedings against a long list of senior figures, including Olabode George, Ben Obi, Udom Emmanuel, and others.

In addition to the expulsions, “NEC” ordered Chief Ali Odefa to refund all earnings received after his prior expulsion and ratified Hon. Chibere Egwu Goodluck as “Acting National Vice Chairman (South East).” It also directed deputies in vacated “National Working Committee” roles to assume acting leadership positions.

The meeting confirmed Alhaji Abdulrahman’s appointment as “Acting National Chairman” and authorized legal action to reclaim seats held by defected officials, citing Sections 68(1)(g) and 109(1)(g) of the 1999 Constitution.

Looking ahead, “NEC” announced a reconciliation initiative and a nationwide membership audit to prepare for the 2027 elections. While acknowledging internal tensions, the committee insisted that the measures were necessary to restore order and credibility.

“The NEC affirms that the era of indiscipline is over. The PDP will not bow to lawlessness or personal ambition,” the communique concluded, pledging to rebuild the party with “unity, discipline, and renewed purpose.”
