Vice President Kashim Shettima has praised Governor Charles Soludo for his contributions to nation-building, noting that Anambra State has renewed “a covenant with competence” with his re election.
Shettima spoke on Tuesday while representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the inauguration and swearing in of Soludo and his deputy, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim, for a second term in Awka, Anambra State. He described Soludo as a man of ideas and integrity whose leadership fosters unity and strengthens Nigeria’s political, economic, and social institutions through informed engagement on national issues.
According to Shettima, Soludo’s counsel has benefited the President’s policies, both publicly and privately. He highlighted the governor’s leadership style as principled, collaborative, and capable of uniting diverse groups without deepening divisions. “It is no surprise that his people have entrusted him with another term to guide the state into safer and more prosperous waters,” Shettima said.
The Vice President also commended Deputy Governor Ibezim, emphasizing that effective governance relies on loyal and disciplined collaborators. He praised Soludo’s cordial relationship with the Federal Government, which has enabled smooth policy implementation and progress in governance.
Shettima credited the administration with restoring order, improving security, and tackling crime in parts of the state, expressing confidence that the second term would consolidate previous achievements.
In his inaugural address, Governor Soludo pledged to deepen development in health, education, agriculture, and the economy, aiming to transform Anambra into a major economic hub by 2030, envisioning it as “an African Dubai, Taiwan, and Silicon Valley.” He thanked the electorate for their overwhelming support and acknowledged President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima for their backing.
Dignitaries at the event included former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan, former Commonwealth Secretary General Emeka Anyaoku, former Anambra State Governor Chris Ngige, and the Ooni of Ife Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi.
