The faction of the African Democratic Congress ADC led by its 2023 presidential candidate Dumebi Kachikwu has officially adopted him as the party’s sole presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 general elections in Nigeria. The decision was announced during the ADC National Convention held on Sunday at A Class in Abuja.
The announcement was made by the Chairman of the Electoral Committee and Benue State party chairman Elias Adikwu. Delegates at the convention unanimously ratified the adoption of Kachikwu as the preferred flag bearer of the faction for the next presidential election.
During the event the newly elected National Chairman of the faction Alhaji Abdulkadir Mohammed Bashir presented the party flag to Kachikwu as a symbol of confidence and support for his presidential ambition. Bashir stated that the party leadership was committed to strengthening the ADC and positioning it as a strong political force ahead of the 2027 polls.
The convention also witnessed the election of new members into the National Working Committee NWC. Among those elected were Kingsley Oggah as Board of Trustees Chairman Johnny Tovie Derek as Deputy National Chairman Kennedy O Odion as National Secretary and Dr Joe Aroh as National Treasurer. Other party officials were also confirmed into key leadership positions.
The development comes amid ongoing leadership disputes within the ADC following a separate convention held in April 2026 led by former Senate President David Mark. That faction had also elected new leaders and expelled some members over alleged anti party activities and court actions.
Political observers believe the emergence of parallel leadership structures within the ADC may shape the party’s future ahead of the 2027 elections.
