Political parties in Rivers State are raising concerns about the Independent National Electoral Commission’s handling of electoral preparations, even as they commit to participating in the 2027 general elections. The African Democratic Congress made clear on Thursday it would not withdraw despite reservations about INEC’s transparency.
Chizy Enyi, the party’s Rivers State Publicity Secretary, specifically questioned the recent redeployment of seven Electoral Officers across local government areas in the state. Speaking in Port Harcourt, he said the party had received information suggesting some officials may have been moved due to perceptions about their professional independence. Still, he stopped short of treating these allegations as elished facts.
“We are prepared to challenge any action we consider illegal and will do everything possible to protect the votes of Nigerians,” Enyi stated. The party also called for transparent recruitment of ad hoc election workers free from political influence.
Meanwhile, the Nigeria Democratic Congress confronted a different challenge. The party’s media directorate denied reports that its deputy governorship candidate, Dr. Mike Barieenee Nwielaghi, wasn’t uploaded on INEC’s portal. They urged Nigerians to verify information before sharing claims that could mislead voters.
