Roy Keane questions Chelsea goalkeeper signing as Arsenal faces contract advantage over rivals

Manchester United legend Roy Keane has cast doubt on Chelsea’s move for goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez, disagreeing sharply with Arsenal icon Ian Wright who praised the £7.5 million transfer. The Argentine World Cup winner joined Chelsea from Aston Villa after Robert Sanchez’s shaky performance against Fulham prompted urgent action from the Stamford Bridge hierarchy.

Wright called it a great signing. Keane isn’t convinced. “I know they needed a new goalkeeper but I’m telling you, he was giving up a lot of goals for Aston Villa last season,” the former United captain said. His concerns centered on Martinez’s tendency to parry saves straight into the six-yard box, despite acknowledging the goalkeeper’s strong personality.

Meanwhile, Arsenal have positioned themselves favourably for future transfer windows following Gabriel Martinelli’s impending £60 million move to Al-Hilal. The Gunners will have no players out of contract next summer, allowing them to plan additions without the distraction of contract renewals that currently face Liverpool and Manchester United.

Will this clean slate give Arsenal the edge in maintaining their Premier League dominance? Their rivals certainly have plenty to sort out. The contrast couldn’t be starker as both Liverpool and United must navigate multiple senior player contract decisions in the coming months.
