The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has thrown his weight behind the All Progressives Congress (APC) electronic membership registration exercise in Lagos State by providing digital tools and trained manpower to strengthen the process.

Obasa boosted the exercise with the provision of 80 5G-enabled tablets, 40 printers, and the deployment of 80 trained personnel across the state to assist party officials and prospective members during the registration. The intervention is aimed at improving efficiency, transparency and inclusiveness in the ongoing exercise.

In a post shared on his official X handle on Tuesday, Obasa said the initiative was designed to enhance youth participation and deepen grassroots engagement within the party.

“Today, I strengthened the APC membership e-registration exercise in Lagos by providing 80 5G-enabled tablets, 40 printers, and deploying 80 trained personnel statewide—boosting efficiency, transparency, youth inclusion, and grassroots participation,” he wrote.

According to the Speaker, the goal is to ensure a smooth and credible registration process that encourages active participation from all segments of society, particularly young people and first-time registrants who are more comfortable with digital platforms.

The APC has been implementing electronic registration as part of its broader strategy to modernise party administration, improve data accuracy and eliminate challenges associated with manual registration. The e-registration system is also expected to make membership records more reliable and accessible ahead of future political activities.

Party stakeholders in Lagos have welcomed Obasa’s intervention, describing it as timely and strategic. They noted that the availability of digital devices and trained personnel would reduce delays, minimise technical challenges and boost public confidence in the process.

Observers say the move reflects the APC leadership’s growing reliance on technology to strengthen internal democracy and expand its support base at the grassroots level in Lagos State, Nigeria’s political and economic hub.
