The campaign organisation of Dr. Wole Oluyede, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate for the June 20, 2026, election in Ekiti State, has expressed confidence that he and the party will overcome challenges and emerge victorious.

Dr. Oluyede faces competition from incumbent Governor Biodun Oyebanji (APC), Dare Bejide (African Democratic Congress), and Dr. Olusegun Osinkolu (Young People’s Party).

Chief Makanjuola Ogundipe, Director-General of the Oluyede Campaign Council, stated that despite alleged attempts by political opponents to derail his candidacy, the PDP candidate remains focused on reclaiming the Ekiti Government House for the people.

Ogundipe highlighted that although Oluyede’s victory in the PDP primary was challenged and nullified by a lower court, the party has filed an appeal and an application for a stay of execution, allowing the campaign to proceed without hindrance.

“These setbacks are temporary. After a dark night comes a glorious dawn. The challenges confronting us are mere distractions and will not derail our march towards the Ekiti Government House. Neither Oluyede nor the PDP can be stopped,” Ogundipe said.

The PDP campaign described the June 20 election as a direct contest between the people of Ekiti, represented by Oluyede, and the incumbent governor. Party members and supporters were urged to remain united, steadfast, and prayerful.

Background: The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) excluded Oluyede from the list of candidates cleared to participate in the election following a Federal High Court ruling in Ado Ekiti, which nullified the PDP primary that produced him and ordered a fresh primary. The PDP has approached the court to compel INEC to include Oluyede’s name on the ballot.

The party has accused the APC and Governor Oyebanji of attempts to remove opposition candidates from the race, though the APC has denied the allegations, insisting it supports full participation by all contenders.
