A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, Olabode George, has declared that the party has undergone a rebirth following its November 2025 national convention in Ibadan, expressing strong confidence that it will reclaim power at the centre in 2027.

Speaking at the inauguration of new party managers in Lagos, George described the Ibadan convention as a turning point that restored the confidence Nigerians had in the party at its founding in 1998. According to him, the PDP has emerged stronger and more united, ready to confront future political challenges.

He maintained that the party remains the most formidable political platform in the country, insisting that no coalition could surpass it in national acceptability. George described the PDP as a reborn political force that has weathered storms and cannot be undermined.

Taking a swipe at the ruling All Progressives Congress, he alleged that members of the APC were being pressured to defect, while accusing the party of lacking internal democracy. He pointed to the conduct of the PDP ward, council, state congresses and national convention as evidence of transparency and due process within the party.

George also accused the ruling party of attempting to use the Independent National Electoral Commission to frustrate the PDP, claiming Nigerians were aware of what he called undemocratic tactics. He argued that citizens dissatisfied with the APC led administration since 2015 were waiting for the 2027 general elections to return the PDP to power.

Referencing remarks previously made by former Rivers State governor Nyesom Wike, George said the PDP challenges were temporary and urged members not to panic.

Meanwhile, the APC National Secretary, Ajibola Basiru, dismissed opposition criticisms, stating that they stemmed from a loss of access to resources rather than genuine concern for Nigerians.
