Veteran Nollywood actor Lanre Adediwura has revealed that his involvement in the popular television series Wura left him struggling financially despite the fame and recognition the show brought him.
Speaking during a recent interview on TVC Entertainment, the actor explained that participating in the MultiChoice production prevented him from taking on other acting opportunities for almost a year while the financial rewards failed to meet expectations.
According to Adediwura, he spent more money than he earned during the production period and faced serious financial hardship after leaving the show.
“I came out of Wura and I was spending more than I made. I came out poorer. For six months after Wura, I could have practically gone to a neighbour for Garri. It was YouTube that later gave me ility,” he said.
The actor noted that while the role helped boost his visibility in the entertainment industry, several promises made during negotiations were not fulfilled. He disclosed that producers assured him he would not need to seek other acting jobs during the filming period, but the arrangement eventually affected his career opportunities.
Adediwura also shared that he missed out on a role in House of Gaa despite contributing to the production by translating parts of the script from English to Yoruba. He revealed that he was originally considered for the role of Aláàfin Abiodun before the opportunity slipped away.
Despite his disappointment, the actor stated that he does not fear any backlash for speaking publicly about his experience. He added that some unique expressions and creative nuances he introduced to Wura are still being used on the show today.
