Popular Yoruba actress Omoshalewa Yusuf, widely known as Basira Beere, has spoken publicly about her failed marriage, alleging prolonged physical abuse from her former husband.

The actress made the revelations during a recent appearance on the Talk to B podcast, where she detailed what she described as a traumatic experience throughout the marriage.

According to her, the marriage began to deteriorate just days after the wedding, following a misunderstanding triggered by a congratulatory message she received from a male acquaintance.

She alleged that the situation escalated into repeated physical violence, which she said occurred even in the presence of neighbours and landlords who occasionally tried to intervene.

Basira Beere also claimed that she endured the marriage for a long time due to advice from her parents, who encouraged her to remain patient despite the challenges.

She further alleged that the abuse led to the loss of four pregnancies during the course of the marriage, describing the experience as deeply painful and traumatic.

The actress said she contributed significantly to the wedding expenses and believed she was supporting her partner at the time, only for the relationship to deteriorate shortly after.

Her revelations have since sparked conversations around domestic violence, emotional trauma, and the pressure many women face to remain in abusive marriages.

Omoshalewa Yusuf is known for her role in Yoruba film productions, particularly her portrayal of the character “Basira Beere,” which brought her widespread recognition in the Nigerian entertainment industry.
