Davido Warns Nigerian Artists About International Market Saturation As Industry Dynamics Shift

Afrobeats superstar Davido has issued a stark warning to Nigerian music veterans, urging them to refocus on domestic performances as international markets show signs of saturation.

Speaking on The Uncut Podcast, the singer revealed that what he calls ‘see finish,’ a Nigerian colloquialism for overexposure, has set into key markets like London and America.

Comparing current trends to the landscape just three years ago, Davido highlighted a dramatic decline in drawing power abroad. He noted that while at least 20 artists could previously sell out London venues independently, that number has now dropped to perhaps four or five recognizable names. Within the next decade, he hopes to see major acts returning home as the overseas market continues to contract.

Beyond commercial concerns, the singer painted a sobering picture of deteriorating relationships among Afrobeats artists despite unprecedented financial success.

Recalling the early 2010s when colleagues including Wande Coal gathered in studios together, Davido lamented that camaraderie has vanished as artists became wealthier and more globally recognized. Intense rivalry and competition have replaced the harmonious environment that once characterized the industry, leaving everyone operating in isolation despite the genre’s lucrative growth.
