Nigerians seeking passport services in the United Kingdom are expressing frustration over significant delays at a Manchester intervention centre. Applicants who arrived as early as 9:00 a.m. were reportedly still waiting without assistance by 11:30 a.m., raising questions about the organisation of the exercise.
A Nigerian resident identified as Oluomo of Derby shared video footage of the situation on social media platform X. He highlighted that many applicants had taken time off work, travelled considerable distances, and paid for the services. Why should people who’ve done everything right still face such treatment?
The criticism centred on what Oluomo described as poor planning and communication by those responsible for the passport intervention programme. He stressed that the current system fails to respect the time and dignity of Nigerians living in the UK, calling for immediate improvements in how these exercises are conducted.
Passport intervention centres are meant to provide convenient access to consular services for Nigerians abroad. Still, the Manchester experience suggests a gap between intention and execution. Better organisation and clear communication remain essential if these programmes are to serve their purpose effectively.
