A member of Israel’s Knesset has launched a scathing on Britain, accusing the country of hypocrisy in its stance on Nigeria and the Biafra agitation. Heidi Moses, who claims to represent Biafra in the Israeli parliament, says Britain is directly responsible for what she describes as the subjugation of millions in southeastern Nigeria.
The accusations come as tensions between Britain and Israel remain high following British Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband’s recent condemnation of Israel’s E1 settlement project east of Jerusalem. Moses turned that criticism back on London. She pointed to a population of 50 to 70 million living under what she called “horrible control” of the Nigerian government, asking pointedly: “Who gave this mandate to the Nigerians? The British government!”
Moses revealed she facilitated a recent visit by an IPOB delegation to the Knesset, where they met with deputy speakers Limor Son Har Meleck and Nisim Vaturi, along with other parliament members. The Israeli lawmakers reportedly welcomed the delegation warmly and expressed strong interest in assisting the Biafra cause.
Perhaps most significantly, Moses disclosed that the Knesset has sent letters to the United Nations concerning detained IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu. She characterized his imprisonment as arbitrary, stating he was “kidnapped and jailed only because of his views, only because he wants to free his people.” Whether the UN will act on these letters remains unclear.
