Former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello has been officially cleared by the All Progressives Congress APC to participate in the party’s primary election for the Kogi Central Senatorial District.
The development puts an end to recent speculation within political circles that the former governor may have faced difficulties during the party’s screening process ahead of the primary election scheduled for Monday.
Bello was cleared alongside two other aspirants contesting for the APC senatorial ticket in Kogi Central. The other contenders include APC Diaspora Secretary Momoh Obaro and Ibrahim Yakubu Adoke.
Party officials also confirmed that several other aspirants from Kogi West and Kogi East successfully passed the screening process ahead of the APC primaries across the state.
The confirmation of Bello’s clearance is expected to intensify political activities within Kogi Central due to his strong influence in the state’s political structure and the high level of public interest surrounding the contest.
Supporters of the former governor have reportedly begun mobilisation efforts ahead of the primary election, which many observers believe will attract significant attention within and outside the state.
Stakeholders within the APC described the clearance as an important step toward ensuring a smooth and competitive primary process in line with the party’s electoral guidelines.
The winner of the APC primary will eventually emerge as the party’s candidate for the Kogi Central Senatorial election and is expected to face Natasha Akpoti Uduaghan of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP in the general election.
