Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has emerged as the winner of the All Progressives Congress APC governorship primary election held across the state ahead of the next governorship election.
The primary election, conducted on Thursday across the 23 Local Government Areas of the state, saw Governor Alia secure a landslide victory with 367,786 votes. His closest challenger, Mr Terwase Ornunde, polled 3,247 votes, while another aspirant, Mr Jeffery Kuranun, received 2,923 votes.
The official declaration of the results was made on Friday at the APC State Secretariat in Makurdi by the Returning Officer, Professor Mohammed Isah. He explained that results had already been announced at the local government level before the final collation at the state headquarters.
Professor Isah stated that Governor Alia satisfied all constitutional and electoral requirements of the party and was therefore returned as the duly elected APC governorship candidate for the next election cycle.
According to him, the outcome reflected the will of party members across the state and demonstrated widespread support for the governor’s leadership and administration.
Reacting to the victory, Governor Alia expressed gratitude to God and members of the APC for what he described as a renewed vote of confidence in his administration. He reaffirmed his commitment to serving the people of Benue State and promised to continue prioritising policies that would improve the welfare of residents.
“I am an uncommon ideologist. I am for the masses, and I will remain with the masses,” the governor stated during his acceptance speech.
Governor Alia also praised the peaceful conduct of the primary election and commended other aspirants for participating in the democratic process. He urged all party members to unite and work together for the continued development of Benue State.
The governor highlighted achievements recorded by his administration in sectors such as infrastructure, education, healthcare, and agriculture over the past three years. He assured the people that his administration would continue implementing programmes aimed at transforming the state and delivering sustainable growth.
