Allies of Hyacinth Alia recorded major victories during the All Progressives Congress House of Representatives primaries held across Benue State, strengthening the Governor’s political influence ahead of the general elections.

The results released by the APC National Assembly Election Committee revealed that most candidates believed to be loyal to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, suffered heavy defeats. Only Regina Akume and Blessing Onuh secured victories among candidates linked to the SGF’s political camp.

In Oju Obi Federal Constituency, former Commissioner for Information Peter Egbodo defeated incumbent lawmaker David Ogewu with a wide margin. Solomon Wombo also retained the Katsina Ala Ukum Logo seat after defeating Julius Atom convincingly.

Several serving lawmakers failed in their reelection bids. In Gwer West Gwer East Federal Constituency, David Nongo defeated incumbent Asema Achado. Livinus Tsar also secured victory over incumbent Sesoo Gboko in Vandeikya Konshisha Federal Constituency.

In Makurdi Guma Federal Constituency, Christopher Ikper defeated incumbent son Tarkighir by a large margin, while Gideon Inyom emerged victorious in Buruku Federal Constituency after defeating incumbent Sekav Iortyom.

However, Regina Akume won the Gboko Tarka Federal Constituency primary with a commanding lead over her closest rival Alumun Orpin. Blessing Onuh, daughter of former Senate President David Mark, also secured victory in Otukpo Ohimini Federal Constituency.

Chairman of the Election Committee, Alhaji Sabiu Mahuta, explained that the delay in announcing results was to prevent late night travel by returning officers. He described the exercise as peaceful and urged party members to remain united.

Reports indicate that some defeated lawmakers are already preparing to challenge the outcome of the primaries.
