President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep sadness over the death of the Chief of Naval Operations of the Nigerian Navy, Rear Admiral Musa Katagum, who passed away on February 19, 2026, after a protracted illness.

In a condolence message, the President commiserated with the family of the late Rear Admiral, officers and men of the Nigerian Navy, and the leadership of the Armed Forces, describing the loss as a significant blow to both the military and the nation. He noted that Katagum’s vast experience and invaluable contributions had greatly impacted the Nigerian Navy and the Armed Forces as a whole.

Rear Admiral Katagum held several key positions during his distinguished career, including Director of Presidential Communication, Command and Control Centre (PC4), and Chief of Intelligence of the Nigerian Navy. He was appointed Chief of Naval Operations in November last year, a role critical to Nigeria’s naval operations and strategy.

President Tinubu commended the late officer for his courage, exceptional leadership, and mentorship of a generation of naval officers. He prayed that Almighty Allah would grant Rear Admiral Katagum eternal rest and provide comfort to his family, colleagues, and comrades in the military during this time of grief.
