President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reportedly thrown his support behind Bola Oyebamiji ahead of the upcoming governorship election in Osun State, a move that could reshape the political landscape in the state.

According to a statement from the Oyebamiji media office, signed by Adebayo Adedeji, the endorsement reflects Oyebamiji’s perceived leadership capacity and track record. The statement contrasted his performance with that of the incumbent governor, Ademola Adeleke, accusing the current administration of neglecting key federal projects.

The All Progressives Congress in Osun pointed to several projects it described as stalled or underutilized. These include the Child and Mother Care Hospital in Osogbo, reportedly inactive for over three years, and the 80 bed SDG Hospital in Ipetumodu, which has been abandoned since 2023. The Ss Acquisition Centre in Iragbiji was also cited, alongside the Alternative High School for Girls in Osogbo, an initiative facilitated by Oluremi Tinubu, which the party claimed has not been effectively utilized.

The party further criticized the Adeleke administration’s handling of a 2024 federal debt relief initiative, noting that while the state’s debt profile was reduced by nearly sixty billion naira, the achievement was allegedly presented as solely the work of the state government.

In the statement, the APC asserted that President Tinubu’s support for Oyebamiji is rooted in competence, vision, and performance rather than political opportunism. It also urged Governor Adeleke and his allies to avoid using the President’s name for political propaganda.

The development signals growing political tension ahead of the Osun governorship election, as parties intensify efforts to gain public support and strengthen their positions in the state.
