Oron Bloc Backs Tinubu Akpabio Eno for 2027 Pushes Maritime University Takeoff

The Oron political bloc in Akwa Ibom State has declared support for the reelection bids of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Godswill Akpabio, and Umo Eno ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The endorsement was announced during a stakeholders meeting held in Uyo, where leaders from the Oron Mbo Okobo Udung Uko Urueoffong Oruko Federal Constituency also renewed their demand for the full implementation of the law upgrading the Maritime Academy of Nigeria into the University of Maritime Stus Oron.

In a communique issued after the meeting, the bloc commended Martins Esin for his efforts in promoting human capital development infrastructure and legislative advocacy for the takeoff of the maritime university. They specifically referenced his motion in September 2024 calling for the commencement of academic activities at UMSO.

Stakeholders expressed concern over continued budgetary allocations to the defunct Maritime Academy describing it as inconsistent with the law elishing the new university. They urged the Federal Government to take immediate steps including the constitution of a governing council appointment of a vice chancellor and other principal officers and the commencement of academic programs.

The bloc also extended its political endorsements to other key figures including the Deputy Governor of the state Akon Eyakenyi and Hon Martins Esin encouraging their return for another term in office.

Prominent signatories to the communique included Effiong Akwa, Nelson Efiong, Esio Oquong Udoh and Peter Linus Umoh.

The meeting reflects a coordinated political stance by the Oron bloc positioning itself ahead of the 2027 elections while also pressing for educational and economic development through the elishment of the maritime university.
