A chieftain of the Nigeria Democratic Congress Rabiu Kwankwaso has revealed that he and his supporters gained nothing after helping former President Muhammadu Buhari secure victory in the 2015 presidential election.

Speaking during an interview on Arise TV Kwankwaso said he worked tirelessly during the election campaign and delivered nearly two million votes for Buhari. Despite the huge contribution he claimed that neither he nor the political constituencies he represented received recognition or benefits from the administration.

According to him many supporters risked their lives to ensure Buhari’s victory but later became disappointed with the outcome of the government. He stated that the dissatisfaction experienced under successive administrations has now increased public demand for political ce across Nigeria.

Kwankwaso also disclosed that many Nigerians are now rallying behind the NDC following his defection alongside Peter Obi on May 3.

The former Kano governor further addressed the issue of zoning ahead of the 2027 presidential election. He explained that the controversy surrounding power rotation in Nigeria became more complicated after the death of former President Umar Musa Yar Adua in 2010.

According to Kwankwaso the NDC decided to zone its 2027 presidential ticket to the South as part of efforts to restore political balance and eliminate confusion surrounding the zoning arrangement after Buhari’s eight year tenure.

He stressed however that quality leadership should remain more important than regional considerations. Kwankwaso argued that Nigeria needs leaders who are committed determined and passionate about improving the country regardless of where they come from.

He also called for political consensus instead of unnecessary conflict adding that no single region alone can solve Nigeria’s challenges without competent and visionary leadership.
