The Nigeria Democratic Congress has tapped Nigerian-American businessman Dr. SKC Ogbonnia to lead its operations in Enugu State. The announcement came after an expanded state executive meeting convened on Saturday in Enugu, marking a strategic shift as the party positions itself for future electoral contests.
Why Ogbonnia? According to party secretary Dr. Sebastine Chukwuebuka Okafor, the decision reflects recognition of his contributions to party growth and support for presidential candidate Peter Obi’s electoral campaign. Okafor believes the businessman’s background in academia and public affairs will inject valuable expertise into NDC’s leadership structure.
The appointment aims to strengthen coordination among party members ahead of the 2027 elections. “With someone like Dr. SKC Ogbonnia, who has demonstrated a strong commitment to the growth and ility of the NDC in Enugu State, victory is assured come 2027,” Okafor stated in his address to journalists.
State chairman Dr. Johnpaul Anih praised the national leadership under Senator Seriake son and Senator Cleopas Moses Zuwoghe for their unification efforts. He pledged continued mobilization to strengthen party structures across Enugu, signaling NDC’s intention to present what it calls a credible political alternative to voters.
