2027 Presidential Race Heats Up as Tinubu Rallies APC Governors, Obi Faces Skepticism

President Bola Tinubu is leaving nothing to chance. On Friday, he met with Governors Hope Uzodinma of Imo State and Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State at the State House in Abuja, charging them to unite the ruling All Progressives Congress ahead of the 2027 presidential campaigns. The message was clear: governors hold the keys to electoral victory.

Governor Sule told State House journalists that Tinubu stressed the importance of strengthening the party while ensuring political activities remain connected to poverty reduction and improved welfare for Nigerians. According to Sule, electoral contests are decided at state and local levels, not in Abuja. Governors must lead campaign efforts from the grassroots.

But what about the opposition?

Former presidential media aide Bashir Ahmad thinks the Obint Movement is living in a fantasy. Writing on X on Saturday, Ahmad cautioned members against believing that Nigerian Democratic Congress presidential candidate Peter Obi will finish second in 2027. He called such expectations delusional, arguing that sentiment and online enthusiasm can’t substitute for serious assessment of numbers, structures, and regional calculations.

Obi finished third in 2023, behind Atiku Abubakar and eventual winner Tinubu. Whether history repeats itself remains uncertain, but the battle lines are already drawn.
