NDC Unveils 20 Member Committee Ahead of Governorship and National Assembly Primaries

The National Working Committee NWC of the Nigeria Democratic Congress has announced the constitution of a 20 member National Selection Committee to supervise the screening and selection of aspirants ahead of the party’s governorship and National Assembly primaries scheduled for later this month.

According to a statement issued on Friday by the party’s National Secretary Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu the committee will be officially inaugurated on Monday 25 May 2026 before commencing its inaugural meeting immediately after the ceremony.

The party explained that the move is part of its commitment to transparency internal democracy and credible candidate selection as preparations intensify for the forthcoming elections. The statement noted that the National Leader approved the committee following recommendations from the National Working Committee.

The committee is expected to examine and scrutinise reports submitted by the National Screening Committee before making final decisions on the eligibility and screening outcomes of all aspirants contesting under the party’s platform.

National Chairman Moses Zuwoghe will chair the committee while Barrister Ikenna Enekweizu will serve as secretary. Other members of the committee include Buba Galadima Yunusa Tanko Udenta Udenta Aminu Abdulsalam Mohammed Bakin Zuwo and Shittu Mohammed among others.

The party further stated that only aspirants cleared by both the National Screening Committee and the National Selection Committee would be permitted to purchase nomination forms. It added that direct primaries would be conducted from 28 to 30 May 2026 if consensus candidates fail to emerge.

The NDC reaffirmed its commitment to a transparent inclusive and credible process aimed at strengthening party unity and ensuring electoral success in the upcoming elections.
