Iraq Electricity Ministry has confirmed that Iranian gas supplies have not resumed, raising concerns over electricity generation capacity in several provinces. Officials stated that technical and financial issues remain unresolved, preventing the restoration of cross border energy flows critical to power plants.

Iran has long supplied gas to Iraq under bilateral agreements that support electricity production, particularly during periods of peak demand. The suspension has intensified pressure on the national grid, prompting authorities to implement contingency measures and alternative fuel arrangements.

Government representatives indicated that negotiations are ongoing to address outstanding obligations and ensure compliance with contractual terms. Analysts note that energy trade between the two countries is closely linked to broader economic and political considerations.

Residents in affected areas have reported intermittent outages, underscoring the vulnerability of infrastructure to supply disruptions. International financial institutions have previously encouraged Iraq to diversify its energy sources and invest in domestic gas production to reduce dependence on imports.

The continued halt in supplies highlights structural challenges facing Iraq energy sector.
