US Intelligence Says Iran Not Rebuilding Nuclear Program Amid Ongoing Conflict Debate

United States intelligence agencies have concluded that Iran is not rebuilding its nuclear enrichment capabilities following the destruction caused by a joint US Israeli military operation in June 2025, raising questions about the justification for continued military action.

The assessment was disclosed by Tulsi Gabbard in written testimony presented to the Senate intelligence committee. According to her statement, the operation, known as Operation Midnight Hammer, effectively dismantled Iran nuclear enrichment program, with no evidence of reconstruction efforts since then.

The findings appear to contradict repeated claims by Donald Trump, who has defended the military campaign by citing an imminent nuclear threat from Tehran. Trump has maintained that the strikes were necessary to prevent Iran from rapidly developing a nuclear weapon, despite ongoing diplomatic discussions over a potential nuclear agreement.

During her testimony, Gabbard acknowledged the conclusion but did not emphasize it during her oral remarks to lawmakers, later explaining that time constraints prevented her from presenting the full details. However, she did not dispute the intelligence findings when questioned.

Further complicating the narrative, a senior aide to Gabbard reportedly resigned, arguing that there was no imminent threat and suggesting that the administration may have acted on flawed or exaggerated intelligence influenced by external sources.

Gabbard also told senators that while Iran has suffered significant damage from recent strikes, including losses to its leadership and military infrastructure, the government remains intact. US intelligence assessments indicate that the country retains basic functionality, though its capabilities have been severely degraded.

She warned that if the current regime survives, it may pursue a long term effort to rebuild its military strength, including missile systems and drone technology.

The report adds a new dimension to the ongoing geopolitical debate, highlighting tensions between intelligence assessments and political narratives surrounding the conflict.
