The people of Awkunanaw clan in Enugu State have declared strong support for Governor Peter Mbah, endorsing him for a second term ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

The endorsement took place during a massive rally held at the Civic Centre in Akpasha, where thousands gathered to show solidarity with the governor. The highlight of the event was the presentation of the traditional Ofo staff, a revered symbol of authority and justice, signifying trust and collective backing from the clan.

Speaking on behalf of the people, former Senate President Ken Nnamani praised Mbah’s performance, describing him as a model for good governance across Nigeria. He stated that the governor’s achievements within less than three years surpass what many administrations accomplish in two terms.

Nnamani emphasized that the Awkunanaw people are united in their decision and warned that no individual from the clan should contest the governorship position until power returns to Enugu East Senatorial Zone. He added that any disagreements with the governor would be resolved internally, reaffirming their unwavering commitment.

Also lending his voice, former governor Jim Nwobodo, represented at the event, described the endorsement as binding, noting that the presentation of the Ofo carries deep cultural and spiritual significance that cannot be reversed.

Traditional rulers led by Obi Igwesi reinforced the endorsement, invoking ancestral authority and warning against opposition from within the clan.

In his response, Governor Mbah highlighted key achievements of his administration, including developments in education, healthcare, transportation, and infrastructure. He urged unity among the people and cautioned against divisive politics driven by selfish interests.

The rally marks a significant political boost for Mbah as early alignments ahead of 2027 begin to take shape in Enugu State
