A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, Kefas Ropshik, has officially entered the race for the Plateau State governorship ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections after purchasing his nomination and expression of interest forms in Abuja.
Ropshik, who is from Garram village in Kanke Local Government Area of Plateau State, is seeking the party’s ticket in a bid to challenge the incumbent governor, Caleb Mutfwang, who is also expected to contest for a second term.
Arriving at the venue in an all white traditional outfit accompanied by supporters, Ropshik described his decision as the result of extensive consultations, prayers and reflection on the needs of the people of Plateau State.
He said his ambition was driven by a desire to promote inclusive development, enterprise and innovation, rather than personal interest or political ambition.
According to him, his experiences across communities in the state have exposed him to the challenges facing residents, particularly youths, women and struggling families.
Ropshik said he envisions a Plateau State that moves away from dependency and embraces productivity, with strong emphasis on agriculture, tourism, technology, business and industrial growth.
He added that his goal is to empower young people to become creators and innovators while strengthening opportunities for women and supporting sustainable economic development.
Describing himself as a servant leader, he appealed to party members and residents of Plateau State for support, trust and prayers as he embarks on his political journey.
His entry into the race adds to growing competition within the PDP as aspirants position themselves ahead of the party primaries and the 2027 governorship election.
Political observers say the contest is expected to be keenly contested as the opposition party seeks to strengthen its position in the state.
