The Church of Nigeria Anglican Communion has suspended Reverend Ifunaya Maduka from his position as Vicar of St Paul’s Parish, Nteje, in Anambra State over allegations of staged miracles and false prophecies.

The suspension, which takes immediate effect, will last for six months without salary. The decision was announced by the Bishop on the Niger, Owen Nwokolo, following an internal investigation into the cleric’s conduct.

According to the church, Maduka was found to have engaged in practices described as “grossly unbecoming” of an ordained priest. The allegations include orchestrating and manipulating miracles and prophetic sessions using individuals allegedly known to him and reportedly paid to act as participants, while presenting the events as genuine divine manifestations.

Church authorities stated that the priest admitted involvement in the acts after being confronted with evidence. The development, they noted, raised serious concerns about integrity, doctrine, and the ethical standards expected of clergy within the Anglican Communion.

In an official letter dated April 27, the church said the actions of the priest amounted to deception of the faithful, abuse of spiritual authority, and conduct capable of bringing the church into disrepute. It added that such behavior contradicts Christian teachings and undermines the credibility of religious leadership.

As part of the disciplinary measures, Maduka has been directed to hand over all church property and vacate the parish premises within a specified period. A formal panel is also expected to be set up within one month to further investigate the matter and determine any additional sanctions.

The church emphasized that it does not condone misconduct and remains committed to upholding discipline, moral integrity, and accountability among its clergy. It also expressed hope that the suspended priest would reflect, repent, and realign with the values of the Christian faith.
