The Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards has released its full list of nominees for the 12th edition of the awards, with the main ceremony scheduled to hold on May 9, 2026.
The announcement was made live on Africa Magic channels, highlighting outstanding films, actors, and creators across the African entertainment industry. Veteran actress Joke Silva serves as Head Judge for this edition, taking over from Femi Odugbemi.
This year’s edition features 32 categories, including 18 jury voted awards, 11 aunce voted categories, and three special recognition honours such as Lifetime Achievement and Trailblazer awards.
Organisers also introduced two new categories aimed at expanding continental representation: Best Indigenous Language Film North Africa and Best Indigenous Language Film Central Africa.
The AMVCA continues to celebrate excellence across film, television, and digital content, showcasing the growing influence of African storytelling on global platforms.
Among the nominees, strong competition emerged across major categories including Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Director, and Best Overall Movie.
In the Best Lead Actor category, nominees include Lateef Adedimeji for Lisabi A Legend Is Born, alongside other top performers such as William Benson and Femi Branch.
The Best Lead Actress category features stars like Linda Ejiofor, Bimbo Akintola, and Sola Sobowale, all recognised for their performances in major productions.
The Best Overall Movie category includes Gingerrr, The Herd, My Father’s Shadow, 3 Cold Dishes, The Serpent’s Gift, and Behind The Scenes.
The Best Director category also features notable filmmakers including Akinola Davies Jr for My Father’s Shadow and Tunde Kelani for Cordelia.
Digital creators and unscripted content producers are also recognised, with categories covering reality TV, music shows, and online content creators.
The introduction of new indigenous language film categories reflects AMVCA’s push to deepen cultural representation across Africa and promote storytelling in local languages.
The awards ceremony promises to bring together top talents from across the continent in a celebration of creativity, film excellence, and cultural impact.
