The African Democratic Congress has announced the timetable for its nationwide congresses as part of preparations for the party’s upcoming National Convention.

The schedule was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja by the party’s National Organising Secretary, Prince Chinedu Idigo, and the National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi.

According to the statement, the congress process will begin with polling unit and ward congresses scheduled to take place on April 7, 2026. This will be followed by the local government congresses on April 9, while the state congresses are expected to hold on April 11.

The party explained that the series of congresses across the country will eventually lead to the National Convention scheduled for April 14, 2026. The convention is expected to bring together party leaders and delegates from different parts of the country to renew the party’s leadership structure.

Party officials stated that the exercise forms part of the ADC’s constitutional responsibility to periodically reorganise and strengthen its leadership at all levels of the party structure.

The statement also encouraged party members who are interested in contesting for available positions to obtain the necessary nomination or expression of interest forms through the party’s official website.

According to the party leadership, the forms and additional information about the congresses can be accessed online, where aspirants will also find detailed guidelines on the nomination process.

The ADC emphasised that the congresses are designed to ensure democratic participation among members and provide an opportunity for the party to reposition itself ahead of future political activities.

Members across the country were urged to participate actively in the congresses and adhere strictly to the party’s constitution and internal guidelines during the exercise.

The leadership further called on members and delegates to conduct themselves peacefully and uphold the democratic values of the party throughout the congress process.

Political observers believe that the nationwide congresses and the national convention will play a crucial role in shaping the future direction of the party as it prepares for upcoming elections and political engagements.
