The African Democratic Congress has released its official timetable for the 2026 primary elections, outlining a clear process designed to strengthen internal democracy, transparency, and adherence to electoral guidelines. The schedule provides a detailed roadmap for aspirants seeking various political offices under the party platform. Party officials stated that the exercise is intended to ensure orderliness and credibility in candidate selection across all levels of government.
According to the timetable, the sale of nomination forms will run from May 5 to May 10, 2026 while submission of completed forms will take place from May 11 to May 13. Screening of aspirants is scheduled for May 14 to May 15 with results to be published on May 17. Appeals will be heard from May 18 to May 19 ensuring fairness in the process.
Primary elections are expected to commence on May 21 across all wards for legislative positions including State Houses of Assembly, House of Representatives, and Senate seats. Governorship primaries will hold on May 22 while the presidential primary is scheduled for May 25. The National Executive Committee meeting will follow on May 26 ahead of a special national convention on May 27 where final ratification of candidates will be completed.
The party also announced a structured nomination fee regime, with presidential aspirants paying N100 million, governorship N50 million, Senate N20 million, House of Representatives N10 million, and State House of Assembly N3 million. Concessions include discounts for youths, women, and persons with disabilities to encourage wider participation. The party urged members and aspirants to comply strictly with the timetable and guidelines.
Party leaders emphasized that the process reflects commitment to internal democracy and credible elections. They expressed confidence that the exercise will strengthen unity, participation, and trust among members while positioning the party for competitive performance in future general elections.
