Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, SAN, officially assumed office as the 33rd President of the Nigerian Bar Association on Friday, marking a historic moment in her 24-year legal career. The ceremony took place during the NBA’s Annual General Meeting held in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, where she succeeded Afam Osigwe, SAN.

The milestone wasn’t lost on her. Reflecting on her journey, Badejo-Okusanya recalled attending her first Annual General Conference as a freshly called lawyer two decades ago. Now she’s the one receiving the baton of leadership. What ced in those intervening years?

Taking to her verified X account, the new president outlined an ambitious vision for her tenure. She spoke of gratitude for predecessors, humility about the trust placed in her, and a determination to serve faithfully. Her goals are clear: make the Bar bolder, ensure lawyers feel protected and empowered, and leave the association stronger than she found it.

The work has already begun. Whether Badejo-Okusanya can deliver on these promises remains to be seen, but her commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s legal community signals a tenure focused on tangible impact rather than ceremony.
