The Secretary of the All Progressives Congress FCT Council Election Campaign Council and Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has declared that the party will adopt intensive grassroots mobilisation to reclaim the area councils in the Federal Capital Territory.

Kalu made the announcement on Friday while inaugurating the All Progressives Congress FCT Council Election Campaign Council in Abuja. He said the party would deploy door to door engagement, youth driven strategies and community level outreach to secure victory in the February 21 area council elections scheduled by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

The 138 member campaign council will be chaired by AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, Governor of Kwara State.

Appealing directly to Igbo voters in the FCT, Kalu emphasised inclusion and representation as central campaign messages. He noted that his position in the current administration demonstrates that the Igbo are fully represented at the highest levels of governance.

According to him, his visibility in national leadership sends a strong signal that the Igbo are not marginalised. He contrasted the present administration with previous governments, stating that no Igbo figure held similar prominence in the past eight years.

Kalu also pointed to infrastructure and development projects in Abuja as evidence of the administration’s impact under President Bola Tinubu. He commended the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, for extending development beyond urban centres to grassroots communities.

He stressed that the party would move beyond posters and radio jingles, relying instead on visible achievements and direct voter engagement. Youth participation, he added, would play a critical role in driving the campaign message across households and businesses in all six area councils and 68 wards.

In his remarks, APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda said governors from various regions have begun mobilising support across communities in the FCT. He expressed confidence that the party’s broad based grassroots outreach would secure victory at the polls.
