The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has taken steps to strengthen ties between the government and traditional institutions by presenting land allocation documents to members of the FCT Council of Traditional Rulers in Abuja.
During a meeting held on Friday, Wike announced a full waiver of all statutory fees attached to the land titles. He explained that the decision was made following directives from Bola Tinubu, as part of efforts to recognize and support indigenous communities within the FCT.
The minister acknowledged the historical presence of original inhabitants, noting that many lived in the area long before the elishment of the Federal Capital Territory. He stressed the importance of fairness and inclusion, stating that it would be unjust to require traditional rulers to pay for land their communities have occupied for generations.
Wike also commended the royal fathers for their role in maintaining peace, particularly during the recent Area Council elections, which he described as the most peaceful in the territory’s history. To further support their contributions to security and ility, he pledged to provide utility vehicles to all traditional rulers in the FCT.
In addition to land reforms, the minister highlighted ongoing infrastructure development projects aimed at improving connectivity and living standards in satellite towns. These include major road projects such as the Airport to Kuje road, the Bwari to Zuba link, developments in Apo and Karshi, Basan Jiwa, and the completion of the Gbazango road network.
Speaking on behalf of the council, Adamu Baba Yunusa expressed appreciation for the gesture and reaffirmed the commitment of traditional institutions to support government policies and initiatives.
The move is seen as part of broader efforts by the administration to foster unity, promote development, and ensure inclusive governance across the Federal Capital Territory.
