Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to opening up rural communities through road infrastructure development as part of efforts to stimulate economic growth across the state.
Governor Eno made this known on Friday after inspecting ongoing projects in Nsit Ubium and Eket Local Government Areas, stating that rural road networks are essential for improving access to markets, schools, and farms.
He explained that improving rural connectivity would enhance the movement of goods and services, reduce transportation costs, and contribute to lowering the prices of essential commodities in the state.
According to him, his administration remains focused on delivering people centered projects under the ARISE Agenda, which is designed to improve living conditions and drive sustainable development across communities.
“I’m very interested in opening up rural communities because accessibility to markets, schools, and farms is very necessary for rapid economic growth of our people and our State,” the governor said.
“As we are opening up the rural communities, we are helping the movement of goods to the city, and we are also contributing to lowering the prices of these products,” he added.
Governor Eno also expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work at project sites visited and urged contractors to remain committed to timely delivery and quality execution.
During the inspection, the Commissioner for Works, Professor Eno Ibanga, provided an overview of key projects, including the 2.4 kilometre Ofriyo Road with a 120 metre bridge linking Nsit Ubium and Eket Local Government Areas, describing it as a major infrastructure project expected to boost economic activities in surrounding communities.
Other projects inspected include a general hospital, a model primary school in Nsit Ubium, and the dualization of the 11.6 kilometre Ikot Imoh Strabag Junction Eket Road.
Governor Eno was accompanied on the inspection tour by top government officials, contractors, and community stakeholders, who expressed support for the ongoing development initiatives.
He also reiterated his appreciation to residents for their continued support and acknowledged his nomination as the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate for the 2027 general elections.
