A former Governor of Sokoto State and Senator representing Sokoto North, Aliyu Wamakko, has reaffirmed his loyalty and political support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections, saying Sokoto State has benefited immensely from the current administration.

Wamakko made this known on Friday at the Government House, Sokoto, during the flag-off of mobilisation funds for the reconstruction of the burnt section of the Sokoto Central Market. According to the senator, the Tinubu administration has demonstrated fairness, inclusiveness and commitment to national unity in its dealings with states across the federation.

He noted that the president has been consistent in ensuring the prompt release of statutory allocations to state governments, a move he said has strengthened governance and accelerated development at the subnational level. Wamakko stressed that such financial discipline and transparency deserve recognition and continued support.

The APC chieftain further revealed that Sokoto has enjoyed what he described as an unprecedented number of federal appointments under President Tinubu’s administration. According to him, this level of representation reflects a conscious effort to promote equity and give all regions a sense of belonging in national affairs.

Widely regarded as the political leader of the APC in Sokoto State, Wamakko is believed to play a key role in mobilising support for the party in the North-West, a region considered crucial to Nigeria’s electoral outcomes. His renewed endorsement comes amid growing political alignments and early preparations for the 2027 elections.

Political analysts note that Sokoto was a highly contested state in the 2023 general elections, with both the APC and the PDP recording victories at different levels. Wamakko’s position is therefore seen as part of efforts to consolidate the APC’s influence in the state ahead of future polls.

The senator also commended Governor Ahmad Aliyu for his developmental initiatives, particularly in infrastructure and economic revitalisation, pledging continued support to sustain progress.

The event was attended by government officials, party leaders, traditional rulers and traders, who expressed optimism that the reconstruction of the Sokoto Central Market would revive commercial activities and livelihoods.
