Twenty-one people have been rescued from kidnappers in Kogi State, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu announced on Monday. Among them were 15 members of the National Youth Service Corps. The group, comprising eight males and 13 females, also included six other Nigerians abducted last week.
Security forces found them in forests within Ofu Local Government Area following what the president described as a coordinated Search and Rescue operation. The military, Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services and local vigilantes all took part. Monday afternoon brought relief to families who had waited anxiously for days.
All rescued victims are now receiving medical treatment before reuniting with their families. But what happens to the kidnappers who escaped during the operation?
Tinubu said security forces remain on their trail. “Those responsible will face the full weight of the law, and our security agencies will pursue everyone who aided this crime,” the president stated. He’s directed authorities to sustain pressure on criminal elements across the country.
The president commended the combined SAR team for their courage and thanked families for their patience during the ordeal. His administration, he assured parents of NYSC members, remains committed to ensuring safe travel across Nigeria without fear.
