Former Kaduna Central senator, Shehu Sani, has described the wave of support for Peter Obi as exaggerated and driven largely by ethnic sentiments, insisting that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is well positioned to secure re election in 2027.

Sani made the remarks during an appearance on “The Honest Bunch Podcast,” where he featured alongside activist Deji Adeyanju to discuss Nigeria’s political landscape and leadership direction.

According to the former lawmaker, the enthusiasm surrounding Obi does not reflect a genuine shift in political ideology but rather a continuation of familiar patterns within the country’s politics. He argued that even if Obi were to emerge as president, the fundamental structure of governance and policy direction would remain largely unced.

Sani further claimed that key political figures across party lines share similar ideological foundations. In his view, leaders such as Olusegun Obasanjo, Atiku Abubakar, Obi, and Tinubu operate within the same political framework, making it difficult for voters to expect radically different outcomes.

While defending the ruling All Progressives Congress, he maintained that opposition narratives often recycle familiar arguments without offering truly distinct alternatives.

His comments add to the growing debate over Nigeria’s political future as early conversations around the 2027 elections begin to take shape, with different camps positioning themselves and testing public sentiment.
