Governor Seyi Makinde is expected to formally declare his presidential ambition on Thursday, May 14, during a major political rally scheduled to take place at the historic Mapo Hall.
The event, tagged Unity Mega Rally Ibadan 2026, is anticipated to mark the official launch of Makinde’s expected 2027 presidential campaign. The rally is also expected to feature the unveiling of a political alliance involving the Peoples Democratic Party, the Allied Peoples Movement, and other candidates linked to the growing political coalition associated with the Oyo State governor.
Sources familiar with the development revealed that preparations for the rally have intensified as political realignments continue within Oyo State and across the South West region. Grassroots mobilisers, political associates, and loyal supporters of the governor are reportedly increasing consultations and strategic engagements ahead of the planned declaration.
Political analysts believe the ongoing moves are part of a wider strategy designed to strengthen grassroots political structures across Oyo State and beyond while expanding Governor Makinde’s influence within the national political landscape.
Reports also indicate that discussions among stakeholders have accelerated in recent weeks due to unresolved internal disputes within the PDP at the national level. The situation has reportedly encouraged several loyalists and political actors to begin exploring alternative political arrangements and broader alliances.
The May 14 rally is expected to attract political stakeholders, youth groups, community leaders, traditional supporters, and allies from different parts of the country, especially those believed to support Makinde’s leadership approach and political vision.
Although Governor Makinde has not officially confirmed his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election, support groups and political associates have continued to intensify calls urging him to join the race.
The planned rally is already generating significant attention within Nigeria’s political space and could mark a major turning point ahead of the next general elections.
