Prime Video has announced a landmark investment exceeding $2 billion in Latin American entertainment, marking one of the streaming industry’s most aggressive regional expansion efforts as competition intensifies across the continent. The comprehensive three year plan, spanning 2027 to 2030, targets Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Colombia and Chile with promises to double original local programming while expanding live sports coverage and creative infrastructure.
Executives unveiled the ambitious strategy at an inaugural showcase event in Mexico City, signaling the streaming giant’s determination to challenge Netflix’s current market dominance. Latin America represents the second fastest growing region globally for streaming services, making it a critical battleground for platforms seeking subscriber growth as mature markets show signs of saturation.
The investment encompasses multiple strategic pillars including production of original content tailored to local aunces, expansion of digital storefronts, enhanced live sports streaming capabilities, and development of creative infrastructure across the five target countries. By committing to double its original programming output by 2030, Prime Video aims to significantly increase both viewership numbers and aunce engagement throughout the region.
