Canadian director Leah Nelson’s feature animation Tangles has secured distribution deals spanning over 20 territories ahead of its North American premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. The announcement comes as international sales company Charades closes agreements across multiple continents, marking a significant achievement for the animated feature before its official bow.
European markets dominate the acquisition landscape. France’s Nour Films, Italy’s I Wonder Pictures, and the UK’s Altitude have all picked up rights, alongside distributors in Spain, Germany, Austria, Hungary, and Poland. September Film Distribution secured the Benelux territories, while PIFFL claimed German and Austrian rights.
The deals extend far beyond Europe. Aardwolf acquired airline rights, potentially bringing the film to passengers on international flights. Australia and New Zealand will see the animation through Umbrella Entertainment, while Pictureworks takes it to India. South Korea’s Challen and Taiwan’s Swallow Wings round out the Asian territories.
