President Tinubu Nominates Ambassador Ismail Abba Yusuf as NAHCON Chairman and CEO

President Bola Tinubu has nominated Ambassador Ismail Abba Yusuf as the new Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON). The appointment, which replaces Professor Abdullahi Usman who resigned after 14 months in office, is subject to Senate confirmation under Section 3(2) of the NAHCON Act, 2006.

In a letter addressed to Senate President Godswill Akpabio on Wednesday, President Tinubu requested the expeditious confirmation of Ambassador Yusuf. A career diplomat, Yusuf previously served as Nigeria’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Türkiye from 2021 to 2024.

The nomination was announced in a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, dated February 11, 2026, signaling the administration’s intent to strengthen leadership at the commission ahead of upcoming Hajj operations.
