Presidential aspirant of the Nigeria Democratic Congress NDC, Peter Obi, on Tuesday night met with former Kano State governor Rabiu Kwankwaso in Abuja following his successful screening by the party ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The meeting took place at Kwankwaso’s residence in Maitama shortly after Obi was cleared by the NDC screening committee to participate in the party’s presidential primary.
Kwankwaso confirmed the visit in a post shared on his X account on Wednesday, where he described Obi as “my brother” and expressed optimism about the future of the party.
“Last night, I received a courtesy visit from my brother, His Excellency Peter Obi, shortly after his successful screening as the presidential aspirant of our party, the NDC. The future is bright and full of promise,” Kwankwaso stated.
The development comes weeks after both Obi and Kwankwaso officially defected to the Nigeria Democratic Congress in May 2026 following their exit from the African Democratic Congress ADC.
The two politicians were major contenders in the 2023 presidential election, contesting under different political platforms before joining forces within the NDC.
Their latest meeting has intensified political speculation that both leaders could eventually work together on a joint presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections.
