Kabiru Turaki on Monday formally assumed office as Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party Interim National Working Committee pledging to ilise the party and position it for victory in the 2027 general elections despite ongoing internal challenges.

His emergence comes at a critical time for the PDP which is grappling with leadership disputes while working to reassure its members and present itself as a strong opposition force. Speaking at the 103rd National Executive Committee meeting in Abuja Turaki addressed top party stakeholders including Seyi Makinde and Adolphus Wabara outlining plans to rebuild unity and strengthen the party’s structure.

Turaki reflected on the party’s past struggles recalling how it survived difficult periods and remained relevant in Nigeria’s political landscape. He rejected claims that the PDP is weakening insisting that it continues to stand as the leading opposition platform in the country.

He expressed confidence in his team’s ability to deliver on its mandate stating that they are fully prepared to confront the challenges ahead. According to him the immediate focus will be on ilising the party while laying the groundwork for future electoral success.

Looking ahead to the 2027 elections Turaki struck a determined tone promising that the PDP will actively contest and win upcoming off season elections as part of its broader strategy. He assured party members that the PDP will field candidates for all elective positions including a strong presidential contender capable of securing victory.

While acknowledging the difficulties ahead Turaki emphasised that unity resilience and commitment will be essential. He reaffirmed the interim leadership’s loyalty to the party and its mission expressing confidence that the PDP can once again reclaim power at the national level.
