Former Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, has dismissed as false a viral social media report alleging that he raised concerns about a so called Hausa insurgency and its alleged sponsors.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Mohammed described the report as entirely fabricated and a deliberate attempt to mislead members of the public. The story had claimed that he made the remarks during an interview with Splash FM 105.5 in Ibadan.
Reacting to the publication, the former minister categorically denied ever making such comments on any platform. He stressed that he had not granted any interview in which he discussed or referred to a Hausa insurgency.
“I categorically state that I have never made any comment regarding a Hausa insurgency on any platform whatsoever,” he said, urging Nigerians to disregard the purported interview in its entirety.
Mohammed warned that the circulation of false and inflammatory reports could generate confusion and heighten unnecessary tensions within the country. He described the viral content as the handiwork of agents of fake news and deliberate distortion, whose objective is to misinform the public and create division.
The former minister reaffirmed his commitment to responsible public communication and called on Nigerians to exercise caution when consuming information online. He advised media aunces to verify claims from credible sources before sharing or amplifying them, especially on sensitive national issues.
Mohammed maintained that misinformation must not be allowed to thrive, adding that collective vigilance is essential in safeguarding public discourse from manipulation and false narratives.
