Obint Movement Rejects AMAC Election Result, Demands Probe Over Alleged Irregularities

The Obint Movement has rejected the outcome of the Abuja Municipal Area Council chairmanship election, alleging that the victory declared for the All Progressives Congress was marred by violence, intimidation, and manipulation.

Addressing journalists in Abuja, the National Coordinator of the movement, Tanko Yunusa, described the poll as a coordinated effort to suppress voters and undermine democratic principles. He said the announced results did not reflect the will of the electorate and called for an immediate and transparent investigation into the conduct of the election.

The movement disclosed that it supported the African Democratic Congress candidate, Moses Paul, in the contest. According to Yunusa, supporters mobilised across the council area in pursuit of what the group termed a new Nigeria but were allegedly met with systemic obstacles.

The group accused the Independent National Electoral Commission of contributing to voter apathy by restructuring polling units without sufficient public awareness, making it difficult for voters to locate their designated centres.

It further alleged that violence erupted at a polling unit in Gwagwa, where one of its agents, Musa Abubakar, was reportedly ed while resisting an attempt to seize ballot boxes. The incident, the group claimed, created panic among party representatives and led to the intimidation and harassment of agents in several locations.

While extending condolences to the bereaved family, the movement insisted that the declared outcome did not represent the true choice of voters in the council. It urged security agencies to arrest and prosecute those responsible for the alleged violence and called on civil society groups and the international community to demand accountability and restore confidence in the electoral process.
