The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) and the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI) have reaffirmed their commitment to promoting transparency and accountability in the ongoing 2025 oil licensing round.
The pledge was made during a visit to NUPRC’s Abuja office by NEITI Executive Secretary, Hon. Musa Sarkin Adar. Speaking at the meeting, NUPRC Chief Executive Mrs. Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan highlighted internal reforms aimed at improving efficiency and regulatory oversight within the Commission.
Mrs. Eyesan revealed that NUPRC has launched a 60-day programme to fully digitise its internal communications and operational processes. “Once we reach day 60, there will be no paper trail within the Commission. All transmissions will be electronic, which ensures speed and traceability,” she said. She noted that the digital transition has already enhanced compliance in revenue monitoring and royalty payments.
Hon. Adar emphasised the importance of c collaboration between NUPRC and NEITI, advocating for regular information sharing to boost transparency and investor confidence in Nigeria’s upstream oil sector. He also stressed the need for strict enforcement of the Petroleum Industry Act and proactive participation in the 2026 global Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative conference to align Nigeria with international transparency standards.
Both leaders agreed that cooperative oversight and stronger data sharing are crucial to safeguarding the integrity of the 2025 Licensing Round and sustaining investor confidence in the broader Nigerian oil sector.
The partnership reflects ongoing efforts by Nigeria’s regulatory and oversight agencies to ensure that licensing, revenue management, and industry operations are conducted with maximum accountability, aligning domestic practices with global best standards in extractive industries.
