A member of the House of Representatives, Abubakar Hassan Nalaraba, has officially withdrawn from the Nasarawa State governorship race ahead of the 2027 general elections and announced his decision to contest for the Senate seat representing Nasarawa South Senatorial District.
Nalaraba, who represents the Awe, Keana, and Doma Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, made the announcement during a stakeholders meeting of his campaign council held at his office in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital. The meeting was attended by political allies, community leaders, and supporters from across his constituency.
He explained that his decision followed wide consultations with party leaders, elders, and constituents across Nasarawa State. According to him, the move was driven by political maturity, wisdom, and a desire to strengthen unity within the All Progressives Congress in the state rather than personal ambition.
Nalaraba emphasized that his earlier governorship campaign had already built strong political structures across the 147 wards, 13 local government areas, and all three senatorial zones of Nasarawa State. He added that his team had been actively involved in community support initiatives including distribution of palliatives, scholarship assistance for indigent students, and empowerment programmes targeting youths and widows.
The lawmaker also declared his support for Governor Abdullahi Sule and endorsed the governor’s preference for Senator Aliyu Wadada as the APC governorship candidate. He pledged to mobilize his political structure and supporters across the state to ensure victory for the party during the primaries and the general election.
On his new political direction, Nalaraba said his decision to run for the Senate came in response to appeals from stakeholders in Nasarawa South Senatorial Zone who urged him to represent their interests at the National Assembly. He stated that the shift reflects his commitment to deeper legislative service and development for his people.
While acknowledging the challenges ahead, he expressed confidence in his readiness to serve at a higher level and contribute meaningfully to national development through effective representation.
