The National President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, Musiliu Akinsanya, has regained control of the union’s National Secretariat in Abuja following a forceful takeover by a rival faction led by Baruwa.

Akinsanya, widely known as MC Oluomo, visited the secretariat on Tuesday to inspect the level of damage done to the facility after it was recovered. In a video shared online, the union leader was seen touring affected areas within the premises, accompanied by aides and security personnel.

After the inspection, he proceeded to hold a meeting with executive members from Kaduna State. Security operatives and supporters were also present at the secretariat to maintain order and prevent further unrest as tensions remain high within the union.

In a statement released via his social media platform, Akinsanya described the incident as a forceful takeover and maintained that the leadership dispute is still subject to ongoing legal processes. He clarified that he was not a defendant in the court judgement being cited by the rival faction.

According to him, the ruling in question has already been appealed, and a stay of execution has been secured. He emphasized that he has not engaged with Baruwa or any other party involved in the dispute, given that the matter remains before the courts.

Akinsanya reassured members that the situation is under control, with security agencies actively monitoring developments. He reaffirmed his position as the legitimate National President of the union and urged members nationwide to remain calm and law abiding.

The development highlights the ongoing leadership crisis within the NURTW, raising concerns about ility within one of Nigeria’s most influential transport unions. Observers say the final resolution will depend on the outcome of the legal proceedings currently underway.
